American dessert apple.Medium to large, round oval fruit. Smooth, solid bright red skin. Juicy, aromatic, creamy yellow flesh. Distinctive balsamic, sweet-acid flavor. Poor storage ability. Crops well from an early age. Midseason bloom. Requires cross-pollination. Zones 4-9. Has almost disappeared in America; still widely grown in England. Developed in Massachusetts, introduced in 1840.
