Box Elder Maple or Manitoba Maple

Acer Negundo
30'-50', Zone 2. Spread variable but usually equal to or greater than height. Leaves are opposite, pinnately compound, leaflets are 2” to 4”, bright green above, lighter green beneath. Stem green to reddish brown, often covered with a waxy whitish bloom that can be rubbed off. Often a small tree with multi stemmed character. Growth rate is fast. Easy to transplant, actually a native to stream banks, but performs well out of its native habitat in poor, wet or dry soils and cold climates. Ph adaptable; full sun; a necessary tree under difficult conditions where few other species will survive. Cultivated since 1688.
