Blue Ash

Fraxinus Quadrangulata
To 50'. Zone 4. Develops a slender, straight, slightly tapered trunk which supports a narrow, rounded, often irregular crown of spreading branches. The leaves are dark green in summer changing to a pale yellow in fall. It frequents dry, limestone, upland soils. Does not seem to be a fast grower. Bark is different from other ashes for on old trunks it is broken into scaly plates. The twigs are winged and 4-sided. Not common in the nursery trade.
