Bittersweet fruit is green with red flush. Used to make cider of full body, good flavor and aroma. Tree is vigorous. Heavy though somewhat biennial bearer. Branch spreaders should be used to avoid narrow crotch angles. Blooms and ripens late. Susceptible to scab. Zones 4-6. Originated in 19th century England.
