Dolgo Crabapple

Siberian crab. Juicy, 1.5 inch olive-shaped, crimson fruits. Name means “long” in Russian, referring to fruit shape. Highly flavored. Rich in pectin. Makes ruby red jelly. Ideal for canning and preserving whole. Fair keeper. Sturdy, vigorous, upright, spreading, open tree can grow 40’ tall by 30’ wide. Dependable, abundant crops. Large, white flowers. Resistant to cedar apple rust, mildew, scab, sun scald and fire blight. Ripens late August or September. 400 chill hours. Zones 2-8. Imported from Russia by Professor Hansen of South Dakota, 1897.
