Intro to Orchard Management, Grafting and Pruning workshop in San Cristobal, NM

Cost is $120 for both days, $70 for one day and includes rootstocks for 5 trees.

This 2 day workshop will take place in an older orchard that is being expanded with new trees. We will talk about wholistic orchard management including integrated pest management, pruning and cover cropping. We will also do some grafting so you are welcome to bring some of your own scions. For successful grafts you need to bring last year’s new growth in straight twigs of around 1/4″ diameter and around 12″ long. Cut them just before the workshop and wrap them in damp cloth and store in the refrigerator. We will have rootstock available for grafting apples, pears, plums, apricots, sweet cherries and tart cherries.

Bring whatever pruning or grafting tools you have; sharp knives, pruners, hand saws, gloves, clothes for changing weather, drinking water and lunch.

March 14, 2012 9am to 5pm  This workshop is now full !

Pruning workshop at Tooley’s Trees in Truchas, NM

Cost is $40. This workshop will cover timing, tools, hygiene, why to prune and responses to pruning.  We will assess overall tree and orchard health.

Bring whatever pruning tools you have; pruners, hand saws, gloves, clothes for changing weather, drinking water and lunch.
